Born in Reading in 1936, Robert Gillmor MBE is one of the best-known wildlife artists and printmakers in the UK. He has illustrated over 200 books since 1958 and was a founder member of the Society of Wildlife Artists (SWLA) in 1964. Following a move to North Norfolk in 1998, he resumed linocut printmaking. A keen ornithologist, he has served on council for all three of the national organisations: RSPB, British Ornithologists' Union and the British Trust for Ornithology. Since 1985, he has illustrated all of the highly characteristic dust jackets for the Collins New Naturalist series and since 2011 has created linocut prints for post-and-go stamps for the Royal Mail. It's a little-known fact that Robert created the original drawing for the RSPB logo, seen today by millions.

Highlighting the Robert Gillmor collection today seems timely. The opening of a major exhibition this month at the Pinkfoot Gallery in the picturesque North Norfolk village of Cley, where Robert lives and works, has recently received widespread press coverage and no wonder. It's a rare opportunity to see his vibrant linocuts of nature up close including 46 commissioned by the Royal Mail, the New Naturalist covers, 30 gallery editioned prints and some classics from the past. It also dovetails with the publication of a new book recording his recent work, Pressing On: A Decade of New Linocuts published by Mascot Media.
